A Little Bit of This, a Little Bit of That

Just a few pictures that make me smile.
Lucy's eyes look almost brown here, but they are as blue as can be.

Blaahhh!

MOM!

Matthew's Hospital Photo Shoot

Matthew decided to try his hand at taking hospital photos of Lucy. I think he did a pretty good job, but then again I think he had a fabulous subject to work with. We used my baptism blanket as a background, a stylish, pink hat, and one sweet newborn. The results are below.
Lulu giving us her first of many stink eyes. She's so tiny it still looks sweet.

My personal favorite. She looks so chubby, but she is only 7 pounds 9 ounces at this point

Little Lulu all bundled up, sleepy, and blissful.

Coming Home

After less than 48 hours in the hospital, we were sent home with our newest Sweetpea.
Here's our little Lucylu catching a ride with mom, and all bundled up in my baptism blanket.

She slept all the way home.

Vera was so excited that Lucy was finally home that she ran out to great us. our sweet neighbors decorated the porch and mailbox with pink balloons to welcome Lulu home.

It sure does feel good to be home in my own bed.

How is Vera adjusting to having a baby sister?

Our wonderful neighbors put ballons at our house for baby Lucy's arrival. The biggest one was a stork that we brought inside to enjoy.

Vera has been doing great with baby Lucy so far, but we aren't sure if we should read anything in to this. You decide.

Guga Meet Your Third Granddaughter

Guga, meet your sixth grandbaby, Lucy Annabelle.

Guga and Lucy just a few hours after her arrival.

Snugglin' my little Lulu

I swear I have this exact same picture with Guga and Vera.

It was wonderful to have Guga here for a week. She was so helpful with Vera and Lulu, and Vera is already asking when she'll come back. Thank you Guga, we love and miss you.

The Many Moods of Lulu Terry

I can't stop taking pictures of Lucy; she makes me heart happy.
We have happy, smiley Lucy
Serious, pout face

I'm starving so I'll just suck my thumb face

Veve and LuLu

Vera has been fabulous when it comes to her new sister. She wants to help bring Lucy things, pats her when she cries, and just snuggles on her every time she is awake. I was so relieved she reacted this way after hearing  horror stories from other people. I pray she continues to do wonderfully in her new roll as big sister.
Veve, meet your sister Lucy

And there were hugs and kisses given out immediately

Vera's ornery look here is hilarious. Like she already knows she has been given a future partner in crime.

Yet another kiss
Listening carefully to our instructions on how to interact with Lucy.
Lucy even brought surprises for her big sister,  a monogrammed backpack filled with big kid goodies. Here she is checking out her "Big Sister" t-shirt.
Vera was just as excited to see Lucy on day two. She kept asking "baby Lucy come home now"
The result of a sweetly stated "I hold baby Lucy"

"Shh, baby Lucy sleeping". Yeah right Ve, we'll see how long that lasts.

I can't wait to see the two of them together. Something tells me Matthew and I are in for a wild ride.

The First 48 hours...

Now that I am operational and able to move, somewhat, I wanted to share a few of the random snapshots from the hospital. Just little moments that were just between Lucy and her highly medicated mother.
Just resting on Mom's lap after a good feeding
Her first official outfit and hat.

After her bath, the nurses put her hair into a mowhawk. I swear she is smirking and that terrifies me.

Peaceful

The Dreaded C-Section

After Vera's arrival, I would be lying if I said I was not worried about having another C-section, and being awake through it all. But once the ball got rolling, everything went pretty well. The anesthetist struggled with giving me the spinal epidural because of my scoliosis, and the head knock you out doctor had to be called in. All these years I loved having a curve in my back because it stopped me from being a super tall freak, but when it comes to an epidural it sort of stunk. After a few failed attempts, the numbing drugs were in and we were on our way to meeting baby Lucy. The actual procedure didn't hurt at all; I didn't even know they had lasered into me. Matthew came into the room and was brave enough to look at what was going on on the other side of that curtain. All I know was that I felt some pressure and a tug, and then I heard sweet little Lucy coo. While they were still sewing me up, the nurses placed little Lucy on my chest and I finally got to meet her.
Thirty-one minutes after I was wheeled back, we had baby Lucy.  I cried like an idiot

The proud Daddy with his newest mini-me. Seriously, she looks nothing like me.

Just moments after Lucy arrived. She was born at 12:31, and weighed 7 pounds 14 ounces. She was 19 inches long and as fabulous as I had dreamed. It was beyond words to be awake for her birth; one of the best moments in my life. Hands down.

Baby Lucy, meet the world
Getting her footprints made.
Right after Matthew cut the umbilical chord; it took him three snips

7 lbs 14 ounces and perfect in every way

Amen to that, and welcome to our family Lucy!
