Thank You God for Lucy

This past Sunday we had the joy of baptizing little Lucy. It is our greatest responsibility,  privilege,  and joy to teach her about Jesus; what could be more important than to raise a little girl who has a true relationship with Jesus? The service was wonderful and started off with our family Bible verse, John 15:5. "I am the vine, you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit. For apart from Me you can do nothing". That was the first time I cried during the service. Matthew and I were married to that verse, Vera was baptized with it, and now Lucy too. The pastor went on to baptize her, and he prayed that God would be the guiding force behind every decision she made in her life. When he mentioned picking her future spouse, I lost it again. How true  is that? If we trust and follow Jesus, He'll take care of the rest. Vera also decided to participate at this point. When the pastor said, "I'll take her", Vera let out a loud "NO"! No one takes her sister away, not even to baptize her. Hilarious, but good to know Vera's got Lucy's back. It is a tradition in our church to sing a song to our babies on their big day, and here is where I lost it for a third time. Lucy fell asleep to the congregation praying in song over her. It was a beautiful day all around.

Lucy in her baptism gown. Still over the top, still makes my heart happy. I think of marrying Matthew when I look at that gown, and how blessed we have been since that day. I have an awesome husband and two wonderful little girls. God certainly has been good to us.
"The Godfather" with little Lucy. We were so excited and lucky to have Richard come down and be Lucy's sponsor. Please note the length of Lucy's gown here; it still makes me happy to know that my wedding dress was put to fabulous use.
Little Lucy is smiling and happy as can be in her Uncle Richard's arms.
Side note: For the first time in her life, Vera followed her Uncle Richard everywhere he went. When he tried to take a shower, Vera was banging on the door to get in. When that didn't work, she ran around and got to him from the side door. If he was out of her sight, she'd ask "Where's Richard"?  I love it!

The family with Guga
Ladies and gentlemen, the godfather once again.
Side note: The "Thank you God for Lucy" banner was hand made by Veve, Guga, and me, and cutting felt was not nearly as horrific as I imagined it would be. Vera received one from our old church on her baptism, and Lucy just couldn't be left out. They hang on their doors as a reminder of their baptisms, and a reminder for me to appreciate them as gifts everyday.
The gang all walking to church together. When our neighbors joined us, we looked like we were in a parade.  Richard's leading the pack with tiny little Lucy in his arms.

Lucy and me before the service; I'm one blessed mom.
Snack time!
The baptism bunch. Lucy is lucky to have so many people that love and support her.
After the service we all headed back to the house for brunch and to celebrate God's grace. Here is Lucy's cake, which was messed up by the man at Publix, but still turned out alright. Lucy received many beautiful and thoughtful gifts that will remind her of this day as she grows.
Our wonderful neighbor recorded the service for us if you care to watch.

Lucy Annabelle,
Today we baptized you, and we pray that you always keep Jesus first in your life. You can go through life with confidence knowing that He goes before you, and stands behind you. May you always know Him as your friend and Savior. I recently was hipped to a sweet lullaby and have been singing it to you during your feedings and when you're falling asleep. The lyrics say it better than I can, especially verse three. May they always ring true to you. We love you more than you'll ever know,

Mom and Dad

"In the night, He is with you. At morning light, He is with you. Do not fear, for He is with you. When I let go, He is with you.
I couldn't love you more. I couldn't love you more. Oh, I couldn't love you more, but somebody does, Jesus.
Rest your eyes, He is with you. I pray you find, that He is with you. When I let go, He is with you. And I can know, that He is with you.
I couldn't love you more. I couldn't love you more. Oh, I couldn't love you more, but somebody does, Jesus
You are mine for a moment, but you are His, forever His. And in this life I am holding you, but in His arms you live.
I couldn't love you more. I couldn't love you more. Oh, I couldn't love you more, but somebody does, Jesus." Matt Hammitt
